About Sophie Benoit

When I was a little girl my mother worked as a dress maker, and I have many fond memories of designing my own 'Cindy doll' wardrobe while sat amongst bobbins and ribbons below her immense sewing table.
I continued to make my own clothes as I grew up, and eventually embarked on a BA in Knitwear and Fashion at Central St Martins, London. I graduated with an Upper Second class honours degree in 2003, and moved to Bristol shortly afterwards.
While working as a freelance knitwear designer in 2005 I was asked to design a shawl to keep the cold at bay for a friend on her springtime wedding day.
Considering the amount of thought and effort that goes into choosing the right wedding dress, I was amazed to find that there were very few choices of high quality bridal shawls or scarves available to wear with that important dress.
There was a clear niche in the market for luxury bridal accessories made from the finest materials and designed to compliment the wedding dress, and so I created the first range of Sophie Benoit bridal accessories.
This first range has sold exclusively through a London bridal boutique since early 2007, and based on the feedback from happy brides I am now developing the second range due to be released in January 2009 – so watch this space!
